How to cook: Deep Fried Calamari

Ingredients (nutrition)

  • 1 lb squid
  • 4 oz flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 beaten large egg
  • 6 fl oz sparkling mineral water
  • 1 pt sunflower oil

Preparation (instructions)

  1. Clean squids, drain and pat dry with kitchen paper towel. Cut the squids into rings.
  2. Sift flour and salt into a medium bowl.
  3. Put in beaten eggs and half the amount of sparkling mineral water.
  4. Whisk together and gradually add remaining mineral water until the batter is smooth.
  5. Fill sunflower oil in a deep fryer.
  6. Once the oil is hot, coat squid rings into the batter and drop into the deep fryer.
  7. Fry for about 2 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Drain on kitchen paper and serve instantly.
