Make your own Fried Onion rings

Ingredients (nutrition)

  • 5 tablespoons onion powder
  • 4 tablespoons cornmeal
  • 13 fl oz flour
  • 13 fl oz milk
  • 4 fl oz water
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 small eggs
  • 9 large onions
  • cooking sunflower oil

Preparation (instructions)

  1. Mix all ingredients except onions and sunflower oil in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Blend until batter is smooth.
  3. Slice the onions to make rings.
  4. Heat up sauce pan with enough oil for deep frying.
  5. To determine whether the oil is hot, drop a small lump of batter into the oil. If it is hot, it will sizzle instantly.
  6. Dip individual onion rings into the batter.
  7. Place the coated rings into the oil.
  8. Fry until golden brown and drain the onion rings with kitchen paper towel.
  9. Serve immediately.
