Barbecue beef brisket recipe

Ingredients (nutrition)

For Barbecue Beef Brisket

  • 4 lb beef brisket
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 9 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons chili powder
  • 2 tablespoon dry mustard

For Barbecue Sauce

  • 2 1/2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic clove
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar

Preparation (instructions)

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degree F.
  2. Rub brisket with salt and pepper and place in a roasting pan.
  3. Roast in preheated oven for 3 1/2 hours.
  4. Set aside to cool in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  5. Meanwhile, mix tomato sauce, chili powder and dry mustard in a bowl. Set aside.
  6. Remove brisket from refrigerator and slice thinly.
  7. Layer thinly sliced meat in a casserole dish and spread tomato sauce mixture.
  8. Repeat layers until completed, cover with aluminum foil and chill in refrigerator until needed.
  9. Before serving, preheat refrigerated meat in oven to 350 degree F for 50 minutes.
  10. To make the barbecue sauce, combine all barbecue sauce ingredients in a saucepan, bring to boil, reduce heat, uncover and simmer for 35 minutes.
  11. Serve sauce with barbecued brisket.
