For Barbecue Beef Brisket
- 4 lb beef brisket
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 9 oz tomato sauce
- 1 1/4 teaspoons chili powder
- 2 tablespoon dry mustard
For Barbecue Sauce
- 2 1/2 tablespoons honey
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic clove
- 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
Preparation (instructions)
- Preheat oven to 325 degree F.
- Rub brisket with salt and pepper and place in a roasting pan.
- Roast in preheated oven for 3 1/2 hours.
- Set aside to cool in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
- Meanwhile, mix tomato sauce, chili powder and dry mustard in a bowl. Set aside.
- Remove brisket from refrigerator and slice thinly.
- Layer thinly sliced meat in a casserole dish and spread tomato sauce mixture.
- Repeat layers until completed, cover with aluminum foil and chill in refrigerator until needed.
- Before serving, preheat refrigerated meat in oven to 350 degree F for 50 minutes.
- To make the barbecue sauce, combine all barbecue sauce ingredients in a saucepan, bring to boil, reduce heat, uncover and simmer for 35 minutes.
- Serve sauce with barbecued brisket.
