Ingredients (nutrition)
- 2 lb ground beef
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 cup sliced cremini mushrooms
- 3 oz finely chopped pancetta
- 2 oz finely chopped prosciutto
- 3 1/2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1 cup dry red wine
- 14 ready made beef broth
- 3/4 cup dried porcini mushrooms, cut into small pieces
- 3/4 cup chopped sun dried tomatoes
- 1/2 cup tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon chopped thyme
- 8 cups hot cooked pasta
Preparation (instructions)
- Brown beef in saucepan under medium heat for 10 minutes, breaking up into crumbles.
- Remove beef from saucepan and season well with salt and pepper. Set aside.
- Pour off drippings.
- Heat oil in the same saucepan under medium heat.
- Add onion, cremini mushrooms, pancetta, prosciutto and garlic.
- Cook until onion is tender.
- Add wine and bring to boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer until liquid is reduced by half.
- Return beef crumbles to saucepan.
- Add broth, porcini mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar and thyme.
- Bring to boil.
- Reduce heat; cover and simmer 45 minutes.
- Uncover saucepan and continue simmer until sauce thickens.
- Serve with pasta.
