Beef pasta bolognese recipe

Ingredients (nutrition)

  • 2 lb ground beef
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 cup sliced cremini mushrooms
  • 3 oz finely chopped pancetta
  • 2 oz finely chopped prosciutto
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 cup dry red wine
  • 14 ready made beef broth
  • 3/4 cup dried porcini mushrooms, cut into small pieces
  • 3/4 cup chopped sun dried tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon chopped thyme
  • 8 cups hot cooked pasta

Preparation (instructions)

  1. Brown beef in saucepan under medium heat for 10 minutes, breaking up into crumbles.
  2. Remove beef from saucepan and season well with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  3. Pour off drippings.
  4. Heat oil in the same saucepan under medium heat.
  5. Add onion, cremini mushrooms, pancetta, prosciutto and garlic.
  6. Cook until onion is tender.
  7. Add wine and bring to boil.
  8. Reduce heat and simmer until liquid is reduced by half.
  9. Return beef crumbles to saucepan.
  10. Add broth, porcini mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar and thyme.
  11. Bring to boil.
  12. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 45 minutes.
  13. Uncover saucepan and continue simmer until sauce thickens.
  14. Serve with pasta.
