Braised lamb recipe

Ingredients (nutrition)

  • 2 lb leg of lamb
  • 1 teaspoon dried mixed herbs
  • 1 1/2 onion, cut into wedges
  • 2 crushed garlic cloves
  • 1 pt lamb stock
  • 4 tablespoons red wine
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 lb potatoes, cut into cubes
  • 1 lb carrots, cut into cubes
  • 4 leeks, cut into cubes
  • 2 turnips, cut into cubes

Preparation (instructions)

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degree F.
  2. Place lamb in a flameproof casserole dish.
  3. Add mixed herbs, onion, garlic, stock and wine.
  4. Season well with salt and pepper.
  5. Bring to the boil, cover and transfer to the oven.
  6. Cook for approximately 1 1/2 hours.
  7. Add remaining ingredients cook in the oven for another 50 minutes until meat come off from the bone and vegetables are soft and tender.
  8. Discard bones and serve meat and vegetables.
