Lamb shanks with sour cream recipe

Ingredients (nutrition)

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 lamb shanks
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine or dry white wine
  • 1 bay leaf, 1 sprig parsley and 1 sprig thyme, tied in cheesecloth (bouquet garni)
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons capers

Preparation (instructions)

  1. In a large heavy saucepan, add oil under medium heat and brown lamb shanks.
  2. Pour off drippings, add wine, herbs and salt.
  3. Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours until lamb is tender.
  4. Reserve cooking liquid in a bowl and combine sour cream and capers.
  5. Serve lamb shank with sour cream sauce.
