Chicken green masala recipe

Ingredients (nutrition)

For Paste

  • 1 bunch roughly chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 coarsely chopped onion
  • 10 fresh green chilies
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 1 chopped root ginger
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 teaspoons coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon poppy seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 2 cloves

For Chicken

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 finely chopped onions
  • 1 medium chicken, cut into bite size chunks
  • 5 finely chopped tomatoes
  • salt to taste

Preparation (instructions)

  1. Add all spice paste ingredients in an electronic blender or food processor.
  2. Process until for a smooth thick puree. Set aside.
  3. Heat oil under medium heat in a saucepan.
  4. Sweat onions until golden brown and add paste.
  5. Reduce heat and cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Add chicken, tomatoes and salt.
  7. Cover and cook for 12-15 minutes.
  8. Remove cover and cook for another 10 minutes.
  9. Serve hot with aromatic rice or basmati rice.
