Apple charlotte recipe

Ingredients (nutrition)

  • 2 lb peeled and sliced apples
  • 4 oz caster sugar
  • 5 oz butter
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons water
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons apricot jam
  • 8 slices white bread
  • 5 scoops vanilla ice cream

Preparation (instructions)

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degree F.
  2. In a saucepan, add apples, sugar, 1 oz butter and water.
  3. Cover and simmer gently under low heat for 8-12 minutes.
  4. Uncover, stir, increase heat and cook until form a thick and smooth puree.
  5. Pour in lemon juice and stir in apricot jam. Set aside.
  6. Spread remaining butter on bread slices and cut into thin strips.
  7. Lightly grease souffle dish with some butter and line half the amount of bread strips.
  8. Pour in apple puree and top with remaining bread strips.
  9. Place dish on a baking tray and bake in preheated oven for 32 minutes.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before invert onto a serving plate.
  11. Cut into pieces and serve with vanilla ice cream.
