Bread & butter pudding recipe

Ingredients (nutrition)

  • 2 oz butter
  • 6 slices white bread
  • 1 oz currants
  • 1 oz sultanas
  • 3 eggs
  • 18 fl oz milk
  • 2 oz light muscovado sugar
  • pinch of mixed spice
  • single cream for drizzling

Preparation (instructions)

  1. Lightly grease ovenproof dish with some melted butter.
  2. Spread remaining butter on bread.
  3. Cut bread diagonally and arrange in the ovenproof dish.
  4. Scatter currants and sultanas on top of the bread. Set aside.
  5. In a mixing bowl, beat eggs, milk, sugar and mixed spice.
  6. Pour mixture over bread and allow to soak for 35 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 350 degree F.
  8. Bake pudding in preheated oven for 50 minutes.
  9. Serve with single cream.
