Ingredients (nutrition)
- 3 oz ghee
- 6 slices white bread, cut into quarters
- 5 oz sugar
- 10 fl oz water
- 3 green cardamom pods, with husks removed
- 1 pt milk
- 6 fl oz evaporated milk
- 1 teaspoon saffron threads
Preparation (instructions)
- Melt ghee in a non stick pan and fry bread slices until golden brown.
- Remove, drain on kitchen paper towel and transfer to heatproof dish. Set aside.
- To make the syrup, add sugar, water and cardamom seeds in a saucepan.
- Bring to boil with constant stirring until sugar dissolves and thickens.
- Spoon syrup over reserved bread.
- In a separate saucepan, add milk, evaporated milk and saffron.
- Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer until liquid evaporates to half the amount.
- Pour over to syrup bread.
- Serve instantly.
