Custard tarts recipe

Ingredients (nutrition)

  • melted butter for greasing
  • 4 oz plain flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 oz lowfat spread
  • some cold water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 10 fl oz warmed skimmed milk
  • grated nutmeg

Preparation (instructions)

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degree F.
  2. Lightly grease a flan tin with melted butter. Set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, add flour and salt.
  4. Place low fat spread at fingertips and rub flour mixture until turns into crumbs.
  5. Add some water gradually until enough to knead a dough.
  6. Roll out and line onto flan tin.
  7. Prick base with a fork and fill with crumpled foil.
  8. Place on a baking tray and bake in preheated oven for 16 minutes. Remove foil after 11 minutes.
  9. Remove pastry shell from oven and set oven temperature to 375 degree F.
  10. In a mixing glass bowl, whisk eggs and sugar.
  11. Add in milk and give a quick whisk.
  12. Strain into baked pastry shell and top with grated nutmeg.
  13. Place in preheated oven and bake for 33 minutes.
  14. Serve immediately.
