Ingredients (nutrition)
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 1/2 tablespoons sunflower oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 1 lightly beaten egg
- vegetable oil for frying
- cinnamon sugar for dusting
Preparation (instructions)
- In a bowl, mix well flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg and salt.
- In a separate bowl, combine together buttermilk, sunflower oil, vanilla essence and egg.
- Stir in liquid mixture into flour mixture to form a dough.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet.
- Knead dough on a floured work surface and roll out to about 1/2 inch thickness.
- Cut with floured doughnut cutter and deep fry in the heated vegetable oil until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on kitchen paper towel.
- Dust with cinnamon sugar and serve immediately.
