Doughnuts recipe

Ingredients (nutrition)

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons sunflower oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 lightly beaten egg
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • cinnamon sugar for dusting

Preparation (instructions)

  1. In a bowl, mix well flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine together buttermilk, sunflower oil, vanilla essence and egg.
  3. Stir in liquid mixture into flour mixture to form a dough.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet.
  5. Knead dough on a floured work surface and roll out to about 1/2 inch thickness.
  6. Cut with floured doughnut cutter and deep fry in the heated vegetable oil until golden brown.
  7. Remove and drain on kitchen paper towel.
  8. Dust with cinnamon sugar and serve immediately.
