Strawberry shortcake recipe

Ingredients (nutrition)

  • 1 lb sliced strawberries
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons orange juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey
  • 2 oz caster sugar
  • 1 lb plain flour
  • 4 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • grated zest of 1 orange
  • 2 oz butter
  • 2 oz solid shortening
  • 4 oz sour cream
  • 1 pt whipping cream

Preparation (instructions)

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degree F
  2. In a mixing bowl, mix well strawberries, orange juice and honey and set aside for 50 minutes.
  3. Then, add the rest of the ingredients except sour cream and whipping cream.
  4. Combine well and make into flour mixture.
  5. Slowly mix the sour cream to form dough.
  6. Roll dough about 1 inch thick and cut into 4 circles.
  7. Place them on baking parchment on a baking tray.
  8. Bake in preheated oven for 18-20 minutes.
  9. Meanwhile, whip cream until form soft peaks.
  10. Top shortcake with strawberry mixture and whipped cream.
  11. Serve immediately.
