Whiskey soda bread recipe

Ingredients (nutrition)

For Whiskey Butter Sauce

  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1 tablespoon Irish whiskey

For Soda Bread

  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup Irish whiskey
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange rind
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

Preparation (instructions)

  1. To make the sauce, combine together butter and whiskey. Mix well and set aside.
  2. To make the bread, soak raisins in Irish whiskey for 24 hours.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and orange rind.
  4. Stir in prepared raisins.
  5. Meanwhile, dissolve soda in buttermilk and add in flour mixture.
  6. Stir in butter and mix well.
  7. Transfer batter into lightly greased casserole and bake for 350 degree F for 45-50 minutes.
  8. Cut into squares and serve with whiskey butter sauce.
