For Whiskey Butter Sauce
- 1/2 cup softened butter
- 1 tablespoon Irish whiskey
For Soda Bread
- 1 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup Irish whiskey
- 3 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon grated orange rind
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1/4 cup melted butter
Preparation (instructions)
- To make the sauce, combine together butter and whiskey. Mix well and set aside.
- To make the bread, soak raisins in Irish whiskey for 24 hours.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and orange rind.
- Stir in prepared raisins.
- Meanwhile, dissolve soda in buttermilk and add in flour mixture.
- Stir in butter and mix well.
- Transfer batter into lightly greased casserole and bake for 350 degree F for 45-50 minutes.
- Cut into squares and serve with whiskey butter sauce.
